Understanding the Differences Between Cleaning, Sanitizing, & Disinfecting

There is a significant difference between having your property cleaned, sanitized, and disinfected. It is important to understand these differences when scheduling services. First & foremost:
Cleaning does not kill bacteria, viruses, or germs. Instead, cleaning merely removes “germs” temporarily by combining water with a cleaning product. However, cleaning is a vital step in the deep cleaning process because it allows products that DO kill germs to be more effective.
Products that disinfect or sanitize do kill germs. Sanitizers reduce bacteria on a surface by at least 99.9%. Disinfectants kill more microorganisms than sanitizers, including bacteria, viruses, fungi, and mold. These methods work great on natural stone surfaces, upholstery, fabrics, drapes, carpets, area rugs, and stainless steel. At Superior Restoration & Remodeling, our crews offer all three types of services.

Do I Need to “Deep Clean” for Coronavirus?
The Center for Disease Control and the World Health Organization have both signaled the importance of having a clean, sanitized, and disinfected environment to help control the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19). The CDC specifically recommends “the cleaning and disinfection of homes and facilities.” Undertaking these three steps is commonly known as performing a “deep clean”. We want to assist by providing all three steps performed during a “deep clean”. The health and safety of you and your family are our top priority and understanding how to fight against the spread of the Coronavirus is critical.
Our Antimicrobial Product Provides Protection for Up to 3 Months
The CDC recommends the use of a hospital-grade disinfectant against similar pathogens to the coronavirus. We follow all guidelines provided by the CDC and have developed an effective antimicrobial product that meets our proprietary antimicrobial solution core technology and our standard for clean technology when battling the Coronavirus. It can last for up to three months, but it is important to remember:
- All approved EPA products listed on the CDC website provide disinfection efficacy only temporarily because they deactivate shortly after they disinfect the virus. This usually takes less than 10 minutes, and there is no residual disinfecting action.
- Once germs have been reintroduced to an area by sneezing or touching, the environment is contaminated again.
- What is needed is a residual performing antimicrobial agent that will inhibit the growth of the virus on surfaces or textiles.
